As the weather warms up, all sorts of things can cause itchiness in both dogs and cats, some normal, some worth keeping an eye on. Here\u2019s what might be going on, and what you can do to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Common reasons for summer scratching<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

\u2600\ufe0f Warm weather woes<\/strong>
<\/strong>Hotter weather means more panting, more lounging, and sometimes more irritation. For dogs, warm spots under collars and in skin folds can get itchy. For cats, dry indoor air or extra grooming can irritate their skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udf3f Grass, pollen, and plants<\/strong>
<\/strong>Environmental allergies can cause itching, especially in paws, bellies and ears (for dogs), or around the face and neck (for cats). If your pet gets itchy after time outside or near windows, it could be a seasonal sensitivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
